Spider Man games are, generally speaking, made or broken by how satisfying it is to traverse New York City as your Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man. Slingin’ webs is the essence of that fantasy, second only to being an accomplished journalist. That’s why everyone likes Spider Man, right? The journalism?

Beenox‘s solution for The Amazing Spider Man, the “Web Rush,” pulls double duty as both locomotive and combative solution by slowing down time, thus allowing the player to select their next web-oriented target of interest. Slowing down time will also be helpful for making J. Jonah Jameson’s incredibly strict deadlines, which we know you’re also concerned about. No one ever said the life of a genetically enriched photojournalist would be easy.

ImageA QA tester at TT Games (Lego Harry Potter, Lego Star Wars, et al.) has tweeted an image of a Wii U tablet that appears to have undergone a redesign since we saw one out in the wild during last year’s E3, saying that the unit

Most importantly, the concave 3DS-esque circle pads have been replaced with Wii-style analog sticks. The Wii U logo has been moved to the bottom left-hand side of the unit, while the plus and minus buttons have been moved to the right. Two mysterious button-ish indentations exist below the d-pad and between the power button and battery life indicator; their function, if any, remains unclear. Click here for an omega hyper resolution version.

Update: Well that didn’t take long! The tweet in question has been removed, but a screenshot of said tweet has been safely ensconced Read Full/Article source: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/redesigned-wii-u-tablet-shown-off-by-tt-games-qa-guy/

EA Sports Canada recently announced the feature set for NHL 13, which is due for release on September 11 in North America and September 14 in Europe on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Among the more noteworthy features listed are the additions of “True Performance Skating” and “EA Sports Hockey I.Q.”

True Performance Skating is the latest in EA Sports’ apparent efforts to introduce physics-based engines to player movement. Much like FIFA 12‘s Player Impact Engine, True Performance Skating promises to deliver the “explosiveness, momentum and top end speed displayed by today’s NHL players,” while utilizing over a thousand new player animations. The result, according to the team, should allow for more realistic and creative player movement.

NHL 13 also features EA Sports Hockey I.Q., and unfortunately it isn’t a sports-themed quiz show. EA Sports elaborated on the shortcomings

Everyone’s favorite purveyor of exceedingly niche shoot-em-ups, Cave, is back again with Akai Katana, a welcome — and rare — appearance of one of their console games localized for the West. Not only that, it’s a boxed retail game, and crazier yet, it’s another horizontal bullet-hell shooter, just like their last Western retail release, Deathsmiles. And if Deathsmiles’ gothic lolita stylings sent you running in the opposite direction, Akai Katana is a much more palatable action game, set in a world where young rebels use their warplanes and the power of the mystical Blood Swords to combat the endless hordes of imperial forces. Yeah, no one really plays these for the plots.

As in every shooter, you fly around the screen destroying enemies that appear from the other side of the screen, using regular speedy fire or more powerful, focused fire that slows your movement. The wrinkle in Akai Katana

I compare it to Godzilla movies

Posted: 05/17/2012 by  Captain_Gonru

Usually, I prefer Godzilla in Japanese with English subtitles.  I find that the voice over actors just don’t capture the performance the same way as the actors themselves.  As such, I’m pulled even further out of a film starring a guy in a rubber suit trampling repurposed shoe boxes.

Games are much the same for me.  If the voice acting is back, it really pulls me out of it.  Shin Megami for the 3DS is the perfect example.  Any time the characters start talking, I groan.  Dragon Quest IX, by contrast, has no voices, yet I hang on every word of text.  And using nothing but in-game graphics and a few words, I found myself moved by the build up to the final stage of the game (I’m trying not to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t played yet, so forgive my

Before the advent of electricity, mankind rightly feared the darkness and the thousands of hungry wolves lurking within. Now that we live in a world where eternal daytime can be summoned with the flick of a light switch, the lessons taught by every fairy tale put to print — stay out of dark, spooky places — can safely be ignored, since our smartphones alone can easily cut a swath through the blackness of night. Still, crushing the anxieties of our lizard brains often proves impossible, as a simple evening power outage can quickly turn us from rational human beings into quivering masses who refuse to take candlelit trips to the bathroom alone for fear of wandering House Draculas. And we’re not even safe in retreating to the escapist fantasies of video games; over the years, savvy developers have learned to exploit these primal phobias by designing worlds that turn from

What a week! We’ve been blown away by Max Payne, played Dragon’s Dogma to death and put bullets through the bad guys in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, but nothing could’ve prepared us for Krupa taking one for the team and breaking his leg in two places. True, it’s feels a bit extreme to bust limbs just to get time off to play Diablo III, but some people will go to any length for the love of games, eh?

Physical injuries aside, on this week’s podcast the team talk about:

  • Diablo III launches, servers fall over
  • Minecraft makes a million
  • Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider delayed

The honour of being selected for this week’s Trailer of the Week goes to The Last of Us, the new trailer for which looks something like this:

The latest issue of the Hope News Times and a screenshot have been released by Square Enix for Hitman: Absolution.

The fourth edition of the Hope News Times is headlined by the story of the death of a 49-year-old auto mechanic named Josh Wiggins. Wiggins’ corpse was found pinned under a car he was working on. Sheriff Clive Skurky said that the “accident” was likely caused by material fatigue and a malfunction in the lift controls. Another story details how an Officer Monroe allegedly “accidentally” ran over a shovel in the street that ripped apart his tires.

A screenshot provided alongside the newspaper shows that it was Agent 47 who tampered with the controls and thus caused
